Impact
David, Annie Rees, and Charlotte chose Kidz2Leaders because of the life-changing impact they have witnessed through Camp Hope. Each year, children impacted by parental incarceration are given the opportunity to experience a week of faith, mentorship, and belonging — often becoming a turning point in their lives.
Through their involvement, they have seen campers arrive hesitant and disengaged, only to leave with a newfound openness to faith, meaningful friendships, and a desire to grow. Camp Hope consistently creates an environment where children feel seen, supported, and encouraged.
The long-term impact is powerful — with over 99% of Camp Hope alumni remaining free from incarceration. This work is not just about one week of camp, but about breaking generational cycles and helping students build a new path forward.
How the Grant Would Help
This $15,000 grant will send 10 campers to the inaugural Camp Hope in Birmingham, Alabama, covering the full cost of $1,500 per camper.
As this is the first year for the Birmingham camp, this funding is critical to ensuring its success and expanding the reach of Kidz2Leaders to new communities. Each camper will gain access to mentorship, faith-based teaching, and a supportive environment designed to foster growth and resilience.
Through this experience, 10 students will not only attend camp — they will be given the opportunity to build confidence, form lasting relationships, and begin a new trajectory for their lives.
Student Involvement
All three students have been actively involved with Kidz2Leaders through Camp Hope and related programs. Annie Rees and Charlotte have served as volunteer teen counselors, supporting campers throughout the week and helping create a positive, engaging environment.
David has been involved with Kidz2Leaders for many years, first experiencing camp through family involvement and later serving as a teen counselor. He has also participated in annual events such as Hope for Christmas and previously led a successful Ten Thousand Reasons grant supporting this organization.
Their continued commitment — returning year after year to serve — reflects a deep belief in the mission and a genuine desire to invest in the lives of the campers they support.
