Impact

Lucy and Gianna chose Solidarity Sandy Springs because of its direct and meaningful impact on families experiencing food insecurity in their own community. What began in 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 crisis has grown into a powerful, ongoing effort to support overlooked families with dignity, consistency, and care.

Beyond providing food, Solidarity is focused on improving long-term health outcomes. Through partnerships with organizations like Northside, the pantry is helping address the root causes of unhealthy eating habits by increasing access to fresh produce and offering wellness support such as blood pressure and blood sugar screenings.

Early results are promising — with dozens of participants receiving screenings and referrals for additional care. As access to nutritious food continues to grow, the goal is to see fewer families in crisis and more families building healthier, more stable futures.

How the Grant Would Help

This $10,000 grant would fund two full weeks of fresh produce for families served by Solidarity Sandy Springs — a critical resource that is often the most difficult to source and sustain.

Access to fresh, healthy food plays a key role in breaking cycles of poor nutrition and long-term health challenges. By prioritizing fresh produce, this grant supports not only immediate needs, but also long-term wellness for families and future generations.

With immediate implementation, this funding will quickly translate into meals on tables, improved health outcomes, and a stronger, more supported community.

Student Involvement

Lucy and Gianna have been actively involved with Solidarity Sandy Springs since 2022, consistently volunteering their time and bringing others alongside them to serve. Through school and church groups, they have helped support weekly pantry operations and expand volunteer engagement.

Gianna deepened her involvement through her Girl Scout Gold Award project, leading a large-scale collection effort that provided over 6,200 items to support families during the Easter season. She also identified a need for safer and more welcoming spaces for pantry guests, building picnic tables and planters to improve the experience for those waiting in line.

From hands-on service to thoughtful, solution-driven leadership, their involvement reflects a genuine commitment to strengthening their community and caring for others in meaningful, lasting ways.
